June 14, 2026 - Wines from Chile - Sally & Jay

At our June 14th meeting, Chapter Chair Sally Albrecht and Jay Althouse presented 2 whites and 4 reds from various Chilean wine regions. The most unusual was a País from the Itata Valley. País is now showing up on hip wine lists in New York and California. It’s a lighter red, sometimes compared to a Beaujolais. At this tasting, reaction was mixed; some liked it, others didn’t.

We discussed the topography of Chile. The “signature grape” of Chile is Carmenère. A Carmenère from Tabali Pedregoso in the Cachapoal Valley was the highest-rated wine of the day. But all 6 wines scored in the “Excellent” category, with scores between 15 and 17.

After the tasting, more than 30 of the members mingled and adjourned for food and Sunday night half-price wines at nearby Brixx Pizza.
