August 25, 2024 Silent Auction Results

AWS Educational Foundation

Many thanks to all who contributed and bid on items during our recent silent auction. Thanks also to the many businesses who supported us (Farm Table, Jolo, Milazzo’s, Taylor’s, Vitis House, Amalia’s, Mulino, Total Wine, Heritage Club).

If you are visiting one of these places, please make sure to thank them for their support. We are thrilled to report that our auction brought in $1,718.23. Adding this to our two earlier events (wine raffle and luncheon), our AWS-EF Scholarship Funds now total $2,621.63.

ABOUT

CHARITY COMMITTEE

This year, the North Wake Chapter of the American Wine Society has put together a charity committee to focus our efforts on making a charitable donation to the society's Educational Foundation (AWSEF). The committee is chaired by Fran Torrigian, and includes Sally Albrecht, Margaret Davis, Mary Hedrick, Rosanne Hunt, and Becky Screen.

This Educational Foundation https://www.awsef.org/ provides a number of scholarships to Masters and Doctoral candidates who are studying enology, viticulture, and other wine-related fields. Since 1995, over $500,000 has been awarded to 169 students.

Several months ago, we were fortunate to have Kyle Freeman, one of the scholarship recipients from North Carolina State University, attend and provide a brief presentation at one of our chapter meetings.

Silent Auction at November AWS Conference

Roxanna Hunt is planning to make a special wine-themed rope basket for our chapter to donate to the Silent Auction at the upcoming November AWS Conference in Winston-Salem.

We appreciate any donations you may want to provide for our upcoming silent auction. As a tax-qualified 501(c)(3) organization, these contributions are fully tax deductible to the maximum amount permitted by law.

Please contact Fran Torigian if you wish to be involved, to make a donation, or need additional information. torigian@ymail.com
