North Wake Chapter Charity Events
The North Wake Chapter of the AWS hosted the following charity events to support the society's Educational Foundation (AWSEF):
November 16, 2025 Meeting - Raffled off a “Taste of Italy” gift basket from Total wine ($370 collected).
May 18, 2025 Meeting - During our Vertical Wine Tasting in May, we raffled off a trio of Rosso di Montalcino wines from Querce Bettina (three vintages: 2019, 2020, and 2021), adding $200 to our AWSEF account.
August 25, 2024 Meeting - Our August 25 silent auction event featured a variety of wines and wine products, plus an opportunity to bid on a special exclusive “Wine Club” dining event at Jolo Wineries. Thanks also to the many businesses who supported us: Farm Table, Jolo, Milazzo’s, Taylor’s, Vitis House, Amalia’s, Mulino, Total Wine, and Heritage Club. ($1718.23 was collected.)
June 8, 2024 Meeting - Hosted a Charity Luncheon and Wine Swap event at Lynch Creek Farm ($35 per person).
February 25, 2024 Meeting - Held a successful wine raffle ($530 collected).
ABOUT
CHARITY COMMITTEE
In 2024, the North Wake Chapter of the American Wine Society put together a charity committee to focus our efforts on making a charitable donation to the society's Educational Foundation (AWSEF).
The committee is chaired by Fran Torrigian, and includes Sally Albrecht, Margaret Davis, Mary Hedrick, Rosanne Hunt, and Becky Screen.
This Educational Foundation https://www.awsef.org/ provides a number of scholarships to Masters and Doctoral candidates who are studying enology, viticulture, and other wine-related fields. Since 1995, over $500,000 has been awarded to 169 students.
We appreciate any donations. As a tax-qualified 501(c)(3) organization, these contributions are fully tax deductible to the maximum amount permitted by law.
